About me…
I was born in Leeds, UK to parents of Punjabi-Indian descent. I graduated from Loughborough University in 2011 with a MChem degree in chemistry, followed by a PhD in Physical Chemistry in 2015. My formal education in the sciences has defined much of my life so far, having held multiple post-doc positions in an academic setting followed by senior scientist roles in the chemical industry more recently.
In my short but eventful career, I have dabbled in many diverse research projects related to Materials Chemistry and Electrochemistry. My 3rd and 4th year undergraduate projects were on Supercapacitors and Dye-sensitized solar cells, respectively. Then, just before starting my PhD, I worked on semiconductor thin film fabrication for photoelectrochemical water splitting for hydrogen generation, which quickly became a passion of mine. I continued to work on this in the background whilst researching for my PhD, which was in the area of supercapacitors using steel current collectors. Following my PhD, I held three post-doc positions where I worked on printed electronics, transparent conducting oxides and electrochemical energy storage devices. For the last 4 years, I have been working on Li-ion batteries in an industrial setting, specifically in cathode active material synthesis and characterization.
Whilst my life has so far been dominated by my scientific efforts as I look to progress my career and continue to be a student of nature, I feel there is much more to me than just that. Whilst on the outside I may appear to be somewhat reserved in my character, I can assure you that much is happening deep on the inside. I am hoping this personal website, blog or whatever you choose to call it, will give you more insight into my research experience and also other things that make me, me. Things like photos, music, spirituality, food, friends, family, my interests and personal experiences.
I hope you enjoy getting to know me better and please do reach out if you have any questions or would like to have a conversation with me.
Thank you,
Jagdeep
